Let's Get Funky!

Hi everybody, my name is Ali, I'm new here and I am co-hosting this ReKal blog. Not so sure about co-hosting as much as making mischief, but anyway, I'll try to help keep things fresh around here.

I've been through the archives and read the recent posts. I am amazed at the work you all created with your recycled finds. I have lots of sweaters for re-Kalling that I have found at Goodwill. Mostly I pick up 100% wool so that I can try my hand at felting. I have yet to unravel a sweater.

Let's have a contest! *loud applause from the group*

OK, let's center it around Halloween or All Hallow's Eve or whatever spooky holiday you may celebrate during the month of October. The rules are very simple. Just recycle or reuse an old sweater and turn it into something that represents the month of October or Halloween. Please, try to take a before and after shot. Either we can all vote or I can put each entrant's name in a hat and choose a winner that way. Your thoughts are welcome here.

The prize will be something yummy in the way of yarn, yet to be determined, but it will be good. I can't wait to see your entries.

International Scarf Exchange

International Scarf Exchange
I have not been tempted enough to actually join an online exchange until now. Maybe it is the timing - though i have a busy few months ahead - or maybe the chance to try a new method/style/patterning, perhaps it is the mystery of it all! Whatever it is, i am looking forward to this exchange!

Sweater to hat

Hello there you wonderful recycle fans! It's been some time since I've posted here, but I hope to change that in the near future. For now, I wanted to share a project I did that I'm pretty excited about. I have had this sweater for a few years and just got tired of it so I decided, instead of donating it (then buying it back) I'd just go ahead and pull it apart. I did just that and with part of the yarn (which there was plenty of) I made this funky striped hat.

The pattern is an original that I'm submitting to www.fortheloveofyarn.com for publishing in their upcoming issue. Because I still have quite a bit of this yarn left I think I'll make a few more hats to gift this upcoming holiday season!

I think it's so much fun to unravel then find a new project for the yarn you've just "re-discovered". Happy recycling to you all.
