My first try at dyeing! I had some yarn from a frogged sweater that was a beige color, and used blue Wilton's. I wanted a variegated/hand painted look, so first I dyed the whole batch with one concentration, then I mixed some more and just poured it randomly into the pan. Simmer on low for a couple hours, fall asleep, hubby turns off stove, I wake up to beautiful yarn! More pics later! Gotta hang it up now!

sweater vest done
My cut/sew ReKAL project is done, and here it is!
This probably won't be the last for the year--my brother gave me a good-looking cardigan to recycle.

Support Team Knitty!
Support and I'm not talkin' hose

By way of The Editrex:
Please support Team Knitty! And don't go away empty handed. Swipe the Go Amy button or the bigger obnoxiouser button up there (so I can make up words, nothing new) and slap it on your sidebar. Spread the woid!
Once again, Team Knitty returns after a triumphant 2004, where we raised more than $5000 -- with the help of Knitty's readers and Elann.com, our corporate sponsor. It's time for us to assemble once again for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure.
What is Team Knitty? It's a group of Knitty staff and readers who collect donations that go to fight breast cancer. Then we gather in early October [this year it's October 2] to do the walk. None of us have ever run it, but that doesn't mean we never will. [Okay, *i* never will. :-)] ...Now go read the rest and tell her how wonderful she is and and go on now.
And donate, hey, we all love boobs and some of us even are boobs, tatas are too important not to support. Know what I mean?

Upcoming projects
What fun I had today at the local thrift store. I bought these great quality sweaters all for $10! I can't wait to start frogging!
The black one is a Banana Republic sweater in 100% cotton. I couldn't resist. I plan on making it into a skirt or halter top and hat.
The white one is nylon, it will become a summer top I'm creating a pattern for. The fabric is drapey, so I think it will be perfect for the open crochet pattern I have in mind.
The red/rust item is a huge wool sweater that I'd like to make into a felted bag or jacket.
Finally, the mint green sweater is 100% cotton and I want to also use that for a pattern I'm creating for a summer skit and halter.
Who knew it could be so much fun frogging and putting it all back together?!
Everyone Loves a Bear
I finally got around to knitting up one the small teddy bears from Interweave Knits Summer 2005 issue. I used recyled wool from a huge sock (you can see it here). The wool is very bulky and for a first time try I think he turned out pretty good. He's approximately 16 cm (6 1/2 inches) long. The scarf is made from some leftover sock wool.
My daughter claimed him right away, so I guess I'll have to knit up another for me.

Recycled Silk and Cashmere
I went into my local Goodwill and found a soft pink silk and cashmere sweater. Since it was a size small, I figured I could reknit it into a tank or a scarf. Unfortunately, I didn't get a picture of this sweater before I frogged it, but here it is wound into balls.
I first tried to knit a Clapotis, but didn't like how the dropped stitches looked. Next I started on the boatneck tank, but wasn't happy with that either. My third attempt, I decided to try the Chevron Tank from Rebecca. Here's my finished product.
Cool, huh?

Curly from Scarf Style is finished!
It's not the length called for in the pattern -- but it's a nice length and I knit until I ran out of yarn, which was my intention. I had -- I kid you not -- 4 inches of yarn leftover after binding off and weaving in the ends.
This was made from the sleeve of a man's Large cashmere/cotton blend pullover. I Kool-Aid® dyed the yarn in blue raspberry. The cashmere took the dye and the cotton didn't -- so I have a fluffy blue cashmere ply twined around a pale pink cotton ply. It looks worn and comfortable. It's very soft.
Here it is on the dress form and being modelled by Rosaline!
